According to a poll, Trump leads Biden and people think his presidency has been successful

According to a recent CNN poll conducted by Social Science Research Solutions (SSRS), Republican candidate Donald Trump is currently leading US President Joe Biden in popularity. The poll suggests that a majority of Americans perceive Trump's presidency as successful, while they view Biden's time in office as a failure.

Despite facing legal challenges, Trump, aged 77, holds a lead over Biden, aged 81, in the CNN poll. The survey also indicates that Trump is ahead in six out of seven key swing states for the upcoming presidential election scheduled for November 2024.

The CNN poll shows that Trump's support among registered voters remains stable at 49%, similar to the previous poll in January, while Biden's support is at 43%, slightly down from January's 45%. Moreover, 55% of all Americans consider Trump's presidency a success, compared to 44% who see it as a failure.

In contrast, 61% of respondents believe Biden's presidency has been a failure so far, with only 39% considering it a success. Partisan divisions are evident, with 92% of Republicans viewing Trump's presidency as a success, while 73% of Democrats see Biden's as successful.

Independents also show a preference for Trump, with 51% considering his presidency successful, compared to 37% for Biden. Negative perceptions of Biden's performance persist, with 60% disapproving of his time in office.

Biden's approval ratings for handling various issues are mixed, with 45% approval for healthcare policy and 44% for handling student loan debt. However, his handling of the Israel-Hamas conflict receives the lowest approval rating at 28%.

Economic concerns are a significant factor for voters, with 65% considering the economy extremely important in their choice of president. Trump gains support among these voters, with 62% favoring him over Biden.

Overall, protecting democracy is a top priority for voters, followed by immigration, crime, gun policy, and healthcare. There are notable differences in priorities between Democratic and Republican voters, with Democrats emphasizing protecting democracy, abortion, the economy, gun policy, and healthcare, while Republicans prioritize the economy, immigration, crime, and democracy.

In a hypothetical matchup with additional independent and Green Party candidates, Trump leads Biden by a margin of 42% to 33%. Among voters younger than 35, Biden trails Trump by a margin of 51% to 40%.

The CNN poll was conducted from April 18-23 and surveyed a random national sample of 1,212 adults, including 967 registered voters.
