After a student dies, the US envoy reassures parents, saying, Your children are our children

US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti recently addressed concerns regarding the safety of Indian students in the United States, reassuring parents that the US prioritizes the well-being of Indian students and considers them as part of their own community while they are studying in the country.

Garcetti emphasized the deep care the US has for Indian students and highlighted the resources available to support them during their time in the US, including mental health services and other support systems. He encouraged students to familiarize themselves with safety measures, build networks of trusted friends, and know how to respond to dangerous situations or mental health issues.

The Ambassador stressed the importance of students being aware of their surroundings, understanding local safety protocols, and utilizing campus security and local law enforcement resources. He acknowledged that navigating a new country can pose challenges for students, but emphasized that American universities offer enriching experiences and a safe environment.

Garcetti reiterated that the United States is a safe country overall and encouraged students to reach out for help if needed, emphasizing the importance of proactive communication to address concerns and ensure students' safety.

His remarks come in response to recent incidents involving the deaths of Indian students in the US, though the Ministry of External Affairs previously stated that there was no evidence of foul play or interconnectedness in these cases.
