After a video of a Thailand getaway goes viral, the Malaysian beauty queen loses her title

A Malaysian beauty queen, Viru Nikah Terinsip, faced repercussions after a video of her dancing on holiday in Thailand circulated widely on social media. Terinsip, 24, had clinched the Unduk Ngadau Johor title in 2023, a prestigious honor awarded during the annual Kaamatan cultural event in Sabah. However, her holiday video, showing her dancing in a suggestive manner alongside scantily clad male dancers, stirred controversy and attracted criticism.

The Kadazandusun Cultural Association (KDCA), responsible for overseeing the Unduk Ngadau pageant, deemed Terinsip's behavior inappropriate for someone in the public eye. Hours before the KDCA president, Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan, announced the decision to strip her of the crown, Terinsip voluntarily surrendered her title.

Kitingan emphasized that while the video might have been viewed differently if Terinsip were a private individual, as a public figure holding a prestigious title, her actions carried greater significance and scrutiny. The decision to revoke her title aimed to prevent the association from being embroiled in controversy and to uphold the standards expected of Unduk Ngadau titleholders.

In response, Terinsip expressed her acceptance of the decision with dignity and humility. She reiterated her voluntary surrender of the title and emphasized that while titles hold significance, they do not define one's worth or success. Terinsip acknowledged her imperfections, expressed gratitude for supportive messages from netizens, and urged everyone to focus on moving forward positively.

She also made a heartfelt plea to respect the privacy of her family and friends, emphasizing that they were not involved in the matter. Terinsip's message conveyed sincerity and a desire to move past the incident with grace and integrity.
