Amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, India cautions against visiting Iran and Israel

Amid escalating tensions between Iran and Israel, the Ministry of External Affairs issued a notification advising Indian citizens to refrain from traveling to both countries until further notice. This precautionary measure follows reports suggesting that Iran may launch a direct attack on Israel within the next 48 hours.

Indian nationals currently residing in Iran or Israel have been urged to register themselves with the Indian embassies in those countries and exercise utmost caution for their safety, minimizing their movements whenever possible.

The Indian embassy in Israel has also advised Indian citizens to avoid unnecessary travel, maintain composure, and adhere to safety guidelines issued by local authorities.

The advisory from the Ministry of External Affairs coincides with reports indicating the possibility of an imminent attack on Israel by Iran. According to sources, the Iranian leadership is contemplating the political ramifications of such an attack, while US officials suggest that it could occur as early as Friday, potentially involving a significant arsenal of drones, cruise missiles, and ballistic missiles aimed at Israeli military targets.

Tensions between Iran and Israel escalated recently after a strike destroyed the Iranian consulate in Syria, resulting in the death of a senior Iranian military commander and six officers. Iran has accused Israel of orchestrating the strike, prompting Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei to declare an inevitable retaliation against Israel.

In response to the heightened tensions, the US embassy in Israel has restricted travel for its employees and their families, advising them to limit movement to Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, and Be'er Sheva. Furthermore, the French foreign ministry has cautioned French citizens against traveling to Iran, Lebanon, Israel, and the Palestinian territories, with additional measures in place for diplomats and civil servants in those regions.
