An Indian-origin builder was fatally shot at a building site in Edmonton, Canada



Buta Singh Gill, an Indian-Canadian builder and owner of Gill Built Homes Ltd., was tragically shot dead at a construction site in Edmonton, Canada. The incident occurred in the city's Cavanagh area, where another individual also lost their life in the daytime shooting, the identity of whom has not yet been disclosed.

Gill was described as a prominent member of the Sikh temple in Edmonton and had strong ties to the Punjabi community. He was known for his generosity and willingness to help others in need. Former city councilor Mohinder Banga, who knew Gill personally, recounted how Gill was checking on his workers at the construction site when the shooting took place.

Banga spoke highly of Gill's character, emphasizing his readiness to assist anyone in need, regardless of the circumstances. Gill's sudden and tragic death has left the community in shock and disbelief, with many expressing their grief and offering support to his family.

The Edmonton Police Service confirmed the shooting and stated that there were no immediate concerns for public safety. They have launched an investigation into the incident, with homicide investigators leading the case. While details about the perpetrator have not been disclosed, the police have indicated that they are not actively seeking any suspects.

The shooting has deeply affected the South Asian home-builder's community in Edmonton, with approximately 50 people gathering at the scene to mourn the loss of Gill and the other victim. Gill is survived by his wife and two children, leaving behind a void in the community that he once served and supported wholeheartedly.
