At the Eid prayer, Mamata Banerjee declared, I won't accept the Uniform Civil Code

Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, reaffirmed her opposition to the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), National Register of Citizens (NRC), and Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the state. Speaking at a mosque in Kolkata during Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations, she emphasized that her party, the Trinamool Congress, will vehemently oppose the implementation of the UCC.

Expressing her firm stance, Banerjee declared, "We are prepared to sacrifice for the nation, but we will not endure oppression in the name of the nation. The UCC is unacceptable. I advocate for harmony among all religions. Your safety and well-being matter to us. We will not entertain the CAA, NRC, or UCC."

She criticized the Narendra Modi-led central government for enforcing the CAA earlier this year and highlighted the BJP's persistent advocacy for the UCC, citing its recent implementation in Uttarakhand.

Banerjee also accused the BJP of personally approaching Muslim leaders during elections to solicit their support. "Muslim leaders seek nothing but love during elections," she stated, cautioning against potential attempts to instigate riots during electoral campaigns.

Asserting her support for the Opposition INDIA bloc, Banerjee pledged to ensure its presence in Delhi. She criticized the BJP for allegedly using central probe agencies against opposition parties.

Meanwhile, Abhishek Banerjee, Mamata Banerjee's nephew and Trinamool's second-in-command, criticized the BJP for fostering communalism. He emphasized the inclusivity of all religious communities in India and urged the preservation of brotherhood among Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, and Christians.
