Born in 1900, Peru claims to be home to the oldest human on Earth

Peru's Andean region of Huanuco may be home to the world's oldest living person, according to claims by state officials regarding Marcelino Abad, a local resident who is said to be 124 years old, born in 1900.

The Peruvian government has asserted that Marcelino Abad Tolentino, also known as "Mashico," has lived a healthy and peaceful life amidst the tranquility of Huanuco's flora and fauna. They highlighted his good health and friendly demeanor as evidence of his resilience and skill in surpassing 12 decades of life, with Abad reportedly celebrating his 124th birthday on April 5th.

Peruvian authorities are assisting Abad in applying to the Guinness World Records for independent verification of his age.

Abad, originally from the town of Chaglla, had lived a relatively low-key life until the Peruvian government identified him in 2019, providing him with a government ID and pension.

According to statements issued by the pension program that Abad is part of, his longevity secrets include a diet rich in fruits and lamb meat. Additionally, he has maintained a tradition of chewing coca leaves, common among Peru's Andean communities.

Currently residing in a seniors' home, Abad was treated to a special celebration for his 124th birthday, complete with a birthday cake adorned with a figurine resembling him.
