CBI arrests K Kavitha, a BRS leader incarcerated in a Delhi liquor policy case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested K Kavitha, a prominent member of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and daughter of former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case. Kavitha, who is currently incarcerated in Tihar Jail until April 23, was apprehended by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) at her Hyderabad residence on March 15 on charges of money laundering related to the same case.

Previously, Kavitha had asserted that the CBI's actions were politically motivated and characterized the case as targeting opposition parties. She claimed that her statement was the primary basis for the case and that the investigation was politically driven. The CBI had interviewed Kavitha within the prison premises with authorization from a special court.

During questioning, Kavitha was asked about WhatsApp communications retrieved from the phone of co-accused Buchi Babu, as well as documents associated with a land transaction linked to the liquor policy case. The CBI visited Tihar Jail on April 6 to interrogate Kavitha on these matters.

According to the ED, Kavitha is a significant figure in the "South Group," implicated in allegedly providing kickbacks of Rs 100 crore to the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi in exchange for a substantial portion of liquor licenses in the national capital.
