Congress leader pokes fun at Himanta Sarma for saying he should "join BJP," asking why he bothers

Mallikarjun Kharge responded to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's criticism after Sarma took a swipe at the Congress president for seeking to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the party's manifesto.

Kharge, speaking to the media in Assam, clarified that he had addressed the Prime Minister, not the Chief Minister. As the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha and a former member of the Lok Sabha, Kharge emphasized his parliamentary experience and stated that his opponent in Parliament was Modi. He questioned why Sarma should be concerned and suggested that Sarma should focus on addressing the people instead of commenting on him.

Sarma's criticism stemmed from Kharge's letter to PM Modi, seeking time to explain the Congress manifesto. Sarma questioned the need for such a meeting, suggesting that if Kharge wanted to join the BJP, he should do so. Sarma's comments came in response to PM Modi's remarks at an election rally, where he alleged that the Congress manifesto proposed distributing the nation's wealth among certain groups, including "infiltrators" and those with more children.

Kharge's open letter to PM Modi aimed to clarify the Congress's stance, refuting the claims made by the Prime Minister. Kharge asserted that PM Modi was being misinformed about the contents of the manifesto and expressed his willingness to meet to explain the reality of the Congress Nyay Patra.

The exchange highlights the political tensions surrounding the election campaign, with both sides engaging in verbal sparring over policy proposals and political strategies.
