The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has raised concerns about Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's health while he is in judicial custody, alleging that he is being denied insulin and that his blood sugar levels are dangerously high. The AAP leaders accused the authorities of pushing Kejriwal towards a "slow death" inside Tihar jail. However, Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena rejected these claims, citing reports from jail authorities regarding Kejriwal's diet and insulin requirements.
Kejriwal, who has Type-2 diabetes, has reportedly experienced fluctuating blood sugar levels while in custody. AAP leaders, including Saurabh Bharadwaj and Atishi, have accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Centre, and the Lieutenant Governor of conspiring against Kejriwal's well-being. They highlighted the dangers of his elevated blood sugar levels and questioned why he was not being administered insulin despite his medical condition.
Responding to these allegations, Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena stated that a narrative of fear-mongering was being built by AAP leaders regarding Kejriwal's health. He cited medical reports indicating that Kejriwal was not advised insulin before his arrest and that he was receiving treatment for diabetes through oral medications. Additionally, Saxena mentioned that the diet plan provided by AIIMS for Kejriwal prohibited foods high in sugar and fat.
Saxena's remarks came after the Enforcement Directorate alleged that Kejriwal was consuming sugary foods like mangoes and sweets regularly, despite his diabetic condition, to create grounds for medical bail. Kejriwal denied these claims, stating that his diet was under the recommendations of his doctor.
The AAP dismissed the reports submitted by Tihar jail authorities to the Lieutenant Governor as a "BJP conspiracy," further intensifying the political controversy surrounding Kejriwal's health while in custody.
