The Election Commission has issued warnings to BJP leader Dilip Ghosh and Congress' Supriya Shrinate for making derogatory remarks against women, stating that their comments violated the provisions of the Model Code of Conduct. Both politicians have been cautioned to be careful in their public statements during the electoral period, with the Commission announcing additional monitoring of their election-related communications starting from Monday.
Supriya Shrinate faced criticism for a controversial comment made on social media platforms against Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut, following Ranaut's nomination as a BJP candidate from Mandi in Himachal Pradesh for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. Shrinate removed the remarks from her social media accounts, attributing them to someone else who had access to her accounts.
On the other hand, Dilip Ghosh was caught on video mocking West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's family background. He later apologized for his remarks, but the Election Commission issued a show-cause notice to both leaders for their insulting and offensive comments against women, seeking a response from them.
