EU to impose additional regulations on online content for pornographic websites

The European Union (EU) has announced that adult content companies Pornhub, Stripchat, and XVideos will be required to comply with new online content rules under the Digital Services Act (DSA). These platforms have been designated as very large online platforms, and as such, they must take significant steps to remove illegal and harmful content from their services.

As part of their compliance obligations, Pornhub and Stripchat must submit risk assessment reports to the European Commission by April 21, while XVideos must do so by April 23. These reports will help identify and address systemic risks associated with the services provided by these platforms.

Additionally, the companies will need to implement mitigation measures to address these risks and enhance transparency by providing access to data for researchers. They must also comply with additional transparency obligations, particularly regarding advertisements.

Failure to comply with the DSA regulations could result in fines of up to 6 per cent of the companies' global annual turnover. These measures reflect the EU's efforts to ensure a safer online environment by holding large online platforms accountable for the content they host and distribute.
