Following the PM's interview, China claims "great positive progress" in resolving the border dispute

Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's remarks emphasizing the significance of stable India-China relations, China responded by acknowledging the progress made in resolving the border standoff along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning stated that India and China have maintained close communication through diplomatic and military channels, leading to positive developments in addressing the border issue.

Mao highlighted that healthy relations between China and India are in the best interests of both nations. Expressing China's hope for India to collaborate in managing differences and advancing bilateral relations, Mao underscored the importance of working together to ensure stability and healthiness in their relationship.

PM Modi's recent interview with Newsweek echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the importance of stable relations between India and China not only for the two countries but also for the wider region and the world. He called for urgent action to address the prolonged situation along the borders, expressing confidence in the potential for bilateral talks to restore peace and tranquility.

The relationship between India and China has faced strains since the clash in Galwan Valley in May 2020, resulting in casualties on both sides. Despite this, the two nations have engaged in numerous rounds of talks at the corps commander level to resolve the standoff.
