If Pakistan is unable, India is prepared to work with them to combat terrorism: Singh Rajnath

In a renewed criticism of Pakistan, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh asserted India's willingness to collaborate in combating terrorism if Pakistan acknowledges its inability to do so independently. Speaking to ANI, Singh emphasized that if Pakistan cannot counter-terrorism, India stands prepared to extend cooperation towards this end. He also cautioned Pakistan of dire consequences should it attempt to destabilize India through terrorist activities.

Singh's comments echo his recent interview where he addressed the Emergency period during Indira Gandhi's tenure. Recalling his personal experience, Singh highlighted the denial of parole to attend his mother's last rites amidst the Emergency, juxtaposing it with accusations of dictatorship leveled against his party by the Congress.

Singh's statements regarding Pakistan follow his earlier assertion in an interview with a TV channel, where he stated India's readiness to enter Pakistan to eliminate terrorists who flee across the border. Responding to a report in The Guardian alleging Indian "targeted killings" in Pakistan since 2020, Singh affirmed India's proactive stance against terrorism, stressing that any attempt to disrupt peace in India would be met with decisive action.

However, Singh underscored that India has never instigated aggression against any nation or sought to annex their territory. He emphasized that while India adheres to peaceful coexistence, it remains resolute in defending its sovereignty and peace against any threat.

Pakistan swiftly condemned Singh's remarks as "provocative," cautioning against rhetoric that hampers prospects for constructive engagement. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated Pakistan's commitment to safeguarding its sovereignty and defending against external threats, underscoring its historical resolve in this regard.
