Important suspects in the 2023 attack on the Indian embassy in London are detained by the NIA

The arrest of Inderpal Singh Gaba, a resident of Hounslow, UK, by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) marks a significant development in the investigation into the 2023 attack on the Indian High Commission in London by Khalistani supporters.

Gaba was apprehended for his alleged involvement in unlawful activities during the protests outside the Indian embassy in March 2023. The NIA's investigation revealed that these protests were part of a larger conspiracy aimed at orchestrating vicious attacks on Indian missions and officials.

The attacks in London were reportedly carried out in retaliation for the Punjab Police's action against Khalistani leader Amritpal Singh on March 18, 2023. Singh, who was declared a fugitive, was subsequently arrested after surrendering to the Moga Police in Punjab.

During the protests outside the Indian High Commission in the UK, Khalistani supporters were seen chanting slogans like 'Khalistan Zindabad' and displaying posters of Amritpal Singh. Social media videos depicted individuals scaling the walls of the High Commission to remove the Indian flag.

Following the Union Home Ministry's directive, the investigation into the case was transferred from the Delhi Police, which had registered an FIR under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), to the NIA, a specialized anti-terror probe agency.

Gaba's arrest underscores the ongoing efforts to uncover and address threats posed by extremist elements, particularly those linked to Khalistani groups, aiming to disrupt diplomatic relations and destabilize peace and security.
