An Apache helicopter belonging to the Indian Air Force (IAF) made an emergency landing during an operational sortie in Ladakh. The incident occurred on Wednesday and the helicopter sustained damage due to the "undulating" terrain and high altitude of the region. However, both pilots aboard the helicopter are reported to be safe.
Following the emergency landing, a court of inquiry has been ordered to investigate the incident and determine its cause.
The IAF stated, "An IAF Apache helicopter carried out a precautionary landing during an operational training sortie in Ladakh AOR on 03 April 24. During the process of this landing, it sustained damage due to undulating terrain and high altitude."
The procurement of Apache helicopters by the IAF aimed to enhance its rotary-wing capabilities. This incident comes after a Chinook helicopter of the Indian Air Force made an emergency landing in Punjab's Sangrur district in February due to a suspected technical issue.
