In the Mahanadi River in Odisha, a boat capssizes, killing two people



Tragedy struck on Friday in Odisha's Jharsuguda as a boat carrying 50 passengers capsized in the Mahanadi River near Saradha, resulting in the loss of at least two lives. Reports indicate that seven others remain unaccounted for.

Eyewitnesses recounted how the boat, transporting passengers from the Bandhipali area in Bargarh district, encountered turbulent waters during its journey, ultimately leading to its overturning near Saradha.

Prompt action by local fishermen proved instrumental in rescuing approximately 40 individuals from the river, highlighting the community's swift response to the crisis.

Meanwhile, authorities initiated a search operation in the river to locate the missing individuals and identify the deceased.

In response to the tragic incident, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh for the families of the deceased, underscoring the government's commitment to support those affected by the calamity.
