Uma Satya Sai Gadde, an Indian student, has tragically passed away in Cleveland, Ohio, according to a statement from the Indian Consulate in New York on Friday. The Consulate has confirmed that local police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding Gadde's death, and they are in contact with Gadde's family in India to provide necessary support and assistance during this difficult time.
The Consulate has also mentioned that they are facilitating the transportation of Gadde's mortal remains back to India as soon as possible. However, they have not disclosed the cause of Gadde's death.
This unfortunate incident adds to a series of tragedies involving members of the Indian-origin community in the United States since the beginning of 2024. At least nine deaths of Indian and Indian-origin students have been reported during this period.
In March, Amarnath Ghosh, a classical dancer from Kolkata, was fatally shot in St. Louis, Missouri. Additionally, a 20-year-old student from Andhra Pradesh studying at Boston University was found dead in a car deep within a forest in the US.
These incidents highlight the importance of ensuring the safety and well-being of students and individuals from the Indian community residing in the United States. The Consulate's efforts to assist Gadde's family and facilitate the repatriation of her remains underscore the support provided to those affected by such tragic events.
