On Saturday, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar highlighted the effectiveness of "Modi ki Guarantee" in ensuring the safe repatriation of 17 Indian workers who had been enticed into engaging in hazardous and illicit employment in Laos. Jaishankar commended the efforts of the Indian Embassy in Laos and expressed gratitude to the authorities in Laos for facilitating the workers' safe return.
In a post shared on social media platform X, Jaishankar emphasized the reach of "Modi ki Guarantee" both domestically and internationally, stating, "Modi ki Guarantee works for all at home and abroad. Seventeen Indian workers lured into unsafe and illegal work in Laos, are on their way back home."
He further praised the Indian Embassy in Laos, stating, "Well done, @IndianEmbLaos. Thank Lao authorities for their support for the safe repatriation."
The External Affairs Ministry had previously issued a cautionary advisory on Thursday, alerting Indian nationals to be vigilant against falling prey to human traffickers who offer enticing job opportunities in Cambodia.
The advisory stressed the importance of thoroughly researching the background of prospective employers in Cambodia to avoid becoming victims of fraudulent schemes.
"It has come to attention that Indian nationals, lured by fake promises of lucrative job opportunities in Cambodia, are falling into the trap of human traffickers," the Ministry cautioned.
The Ministry highlighted instances where Indian nationals were coerced into participating in online financial scams and other illegal activities.
To mitigate such risks, the Ministry advised Indian nationals seeking employment in Cambodia to engage only with authorized agents and conduct comprehensive background checks on prospective employers.
This proactive approach aims to safeguard Indian workers from exploitation and ensure their well-being while seeking employment opportunities abroad.
