Leader emphasizes importance of China relationships and urgent need to resolve border concerns

Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the significance of stable relations between India and China, not only for the two nations but also for the broader region and the world. In an interview with Newsweek, PM Modi underscored the urgent need to address the prolonged border dispute between the two countries.

PM Modi articulated, "For India, the relationship with China holds immense importance. It is my firm belief that we must promptly resolve the longstanding situation along our borders to move past the current challenges in our bilateral interactions."

The border dispute between India and China has persisted for nearly four years, particularly evident in eastern Ladakh following the clashes in Galwan Valley in June 2020. Despite multiple rounds of diplomatic and high-level military discussions, a definitive resolution to the standoff remains elusive. Nonetheless, both nations have committed to upholding "peace and tranquility" on the ground.

PM Modi reiterated, "The maintenance of stable and peaceful relations between India and China is not only crucial for our respective countries but also for fostering peace and stability in the wider region and the world."

Expressing optimism, PM Modi expressed hope that through positive and constructive bilateral engagement at both diplomatic and military levels, India and China can work towards restoring and sustaining peace and tranquility along their borders.
