"Lost 4.5 kg of weight," says Atishi regarding Arvind Kejriwal's condition while incarcerated

At a press conference on Wednesday, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Delhi Minister Atishi raised concerns about the deteriorating health of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal following his arrest on March 21 in a case related to the now-repealed liquor policy. Atishi claimed that Kejriwal, who has severe diabetes, has lost 4.5 kg since his arrest.

Atishi emphasized the critical nature of managing Kejriwal's diabetes, stating that his sugar levels require constant monitoring throughout the day. She highlighted the potential complications associated with severe diabetes, including impacts on the heart, kidneys, eyes, and nervous system, as well as the risk of hypoglycemia, where dangerously low blood sugar levels can prove fatal.

Kejriwal's arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with a money laundering case linked to the excise policy led to concerns about his health, particularly after his sugar levels reportedly dropped multiple times while in ED custody, with one instance reaching 46, which Atishi deemed life-threatening. She expressed worry about the significant weight loss Kejriwal experienced in just 12 days, emphasizing the heightened risks for diabetic patients.

Atishi accused the BJP-led central government of fabricating cases against Kejriwal to imprison him, asserting that such actions posed a severe threat to his health. However, the Tihar jail administration refuted these claims, stating that Kejriwal's vital signs were normal. Despite the controversy, Kejriwal has been permitted to consume home-cooked food while in Tihar jail following a court order.
