Mamata Banerjee and PM Modi argue about Bengal's Ram Navami celebrations

The political atmosphere in West Bengal heated up ahead of the Ram Navami celebrations, as a war of words erupted between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC). Prime Minister Narendra Modi accused the TMC of attempting to obstruct Ram Navami celebrations in Bengal, while Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee fired back, alleging BJP interference in officials' transfers and warning of potential riots.

PM Modi, speaking at a public meeting in Balurghat, highlighted the significance of this year's Ram Navami celebrations following the enthronement of Ram Lalla in the Ayodhya temple. He claimed that despite the TMC's efforts to thwart the celebrations and orchestrate conspiracies, the court's permission had been granted for the processions to proceed with reverence.

In response, Mamata Banerjee criticized the BJP, accusing them of meddling in administrative transfers and implying that they were setting the stage for communal tensions. She cited the replacement of the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Murshidabad and warned that if any riots occurred, the Election Commission would bear responsibility.

Banerjee further alleged that the Election Commission was selectively appointing officers to favor the BJP, insinuating that any disturbances during the Ram Navami celebrations would be attributed to the commission's actions.

The political exchange underscores the tense environment in West Bengal, especially with the elections looming and communal sentiments being invoked ahead of the festivities.
