Misa Bharti replies, "sought votes for a damad in Jamui," in response to the PM's nepotism jab

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Misa Bharti, daughter of party chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, took a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a campaign event for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Bihar's Patliputra constituency. She criticized PM Modi for endorsing Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) candidate Arun Bharti, referring to him as a "damad" (son-in-law), during a rally in Jamui.

In her remarks to the media after conducting rallies and roadshows in Patliputra, Misa Bharti questioned PM Modi's stance on nepotism, insinuating that his support for Arun Bharti amounted to favoritism. She highlighted PM Modi's past criticisms of nepotism in opposition parties, including the RJD, and suggested hypocrisy in his actions.

Jamui, a reserved constituency, has been represented by Chirag Paswan, who has now shifted to his late father Ram Vilas Paswan’s Hajipur constituency, paving the way for Arun Bharti's candidacy. Arun, who is the son-in-law of Ram Vilas Paswan and brother-in-law of sitting MP Chirag Paswan, is now contesting from Jamui.

Misa Bharti further accused PM Modi of using the nepotism narrative to divert attention from pressing issues like inflation and unemployment. She asserted that the Mahagathbandhan government in Bihar had performed well over the past 17 months, while criticizing the central government for failing to fulfill its pre-election promises.

In the upcoming elections, Misa Bharti, currently a Rajya Sabha MP, is once again facing off against the incumbent MP Ramkripal Yadav of the BJP, whom she lost to in the previous two consecutive elections held in 2014 and 2019.
