No moon sighting yet, but this Thursday is India's Eid celebration: Priest

Eid-ul-Fitr, the festival marking the end of the fasting month of Ramadan, will be celebrated in India on Thursday, April 11, as the moon was not sighted on Tuesday evening. This announcement was made by various religious authorities, including the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee of Delhi's Fatehpuri Masjid and the former Imam of Shahi Jama Masjid, Syed Ahmed Bukhari.

Imam Mufti Mukarram Ahmad stated that after contacting various places, it was confirmed that the moon was not sighted, leading to the decision to celebrate Eid on Thursday. Similarly, Syed Ahmed Bukhari mentioned that despite efforts in different parts of India, including Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, West Bengal, and Bihar, the moon was not sighted anywhere.

The Markazi Chand Committee in Lucknow also declared that Eid will be celebrated on April 11 due to the absence of moon sighting on Tuesday evening.

While Eid will be celebrated across most of India on Thursday, it is worth noting that Kerala, as well as Leh and Kargil, will celebrate Eid on Wednesday.

Eid-ul-Fitr is celebrated globally on different days based on the sighting of the crescent moon, which marks the beginning of the Shawwal month in the Islamic lunar calendar.
