PETA wants to take the Maharashtra MLA's dangling crab at the press conference

Animal rights organization PETA has taken action against NCP Sharad Pawar faction MLA Rohit Pawar for his recent act of dangling a crab during a press conference. In a letter addressed to poll authorities and Sharad Pawar himself, PETA has denounced Rohit Pawar's behavior, citing violations of various animal welfare laws and regulations.

According to PETA, Rohit Pawar's action of dangling the crab during the press conference not only violates the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act but also goes against the Maharashtra Model Code of Conduct and directives issued by the Election Commission. The organization emphasized that such actions cause unnecessary pain and suffering to animals and are unacceptable.

PETA further highlighted that research shows crabs are intelligent creatures capable of experiencing pain and subjecting them to such treatment is cruel and inhumane. Additionally, the organization reminded that the Election Commission had previously prohibited the use of animals for political campaigns following PETA India's efforts to raise awareness about animal cruelty in such contexts.

In response to Rohit Pawar's actions, PETA India has requested him to hand over the crab for veterinary care and rehabilitation back into its natural habitat. The organization's advocacy associate stressed the importance of treating animals with respect and dignity, urging all individuals, including politicians, to refrain from using animals for publicity stunts or campaign purposes.
