Police in Odisha are told to erase any offensive tattoos within 15 days

The Odisha Police has issued a directive instructing police personnel with visible tattoos to remove them within 15 days. The order, issued by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Security) of the Twin City Commissionerate Police, aims to uphold decorum and integrity among uniformed personnel.

The Twin City Commissionerate Police, overseeing policing in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, emphasized the need to maintain the image of the battalion and the Odisha Police, stating that tattoos deemed offensive, obscene, or derogatory detract from this image.

The order mandates the removal of visible tattoos while wearing uniforms and directs guard-in-charges to compile a list of police personnel with such tattoos, ensuring compliance within the specified timeframe.

Failure to remove the tattoos within the stipulated period will result in departmental actions against the non-compliant personnel.

Furthermore, the directive advises against obtaining tattoos on visible body parts like the face, neck, and hands to uphold a high standard of professionalism among police personnel.
