The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has taken a dig at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for its delay in announcing candidates for the Asansol and Diamond Harbour constituencies in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. To highlight this delay, the TMC has put up "candidates wanted" posters in these two constituencies. Additionally, the TMC has thrown down the gauntlet to BJP leader and Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, challenging him to contest from Diamond Harbour, currently represented by TMC's Abhishek Banerjee.
Speaking to the media, TMC leader Riju Dutta pointed out the BJP's failure to find a replacement candidate for Asansol after Bhojpuri singer Pawan Singh faced backlash over his controversial videos. Singh initially withdrew his candidacy but later decided to contest again, prompting further uncertainty.
Meanwhile, TMC spokespersons Riju Dutta and Kunal Ghosh have directly challenged Adhikari to nominate himself from Diamond Harbour, setting the stage for a potentially contentious electoral battle.
With West Bengal gearing up for voting in seven phases starting from April 19, the state braces for a fierce political showdown among the Trinamool Congress, BJP, and the Left-Congress alliance.
