raids in Tamil Nadu connected to the arrest of an ex-DMK employee in a drug case

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is currently conducting raids at 30 locations across Tamil Nadu associated with Jaffar Sadiq, a former DMK worker and film producer. Sadiq was apprehended by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) last month in connection with a massive Rs 2,000 crore drug trafficking case.

The locations being raided on Tuesday include Sadiq's residence in Chennai's Santhome area, his office in Mylapore, and a warehouse in Perungudi. Additionally, premises linked to Sadiq’s partners are also under scrutiny by the ED.

The ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu had expelled Sadiq from the party after his alleged involvement in the drug trafficking network came to light following his arrest by the NCB.

Subsequently, Sadiq reportedly disclosed to the NCB that he had provided Rs 7 lakh to Chief Minister MK Stalin's son and state Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin. Out of this amount, Rs 5 lakh was purportedly given as flood relief funds, while the remaining Rs 2 lakh were described as funds for the DMK.

According to the NCB, Sadiq was allegedly running a drug syndicate responsible for dispatching 45 consignments over the past three years to various countries, containing around 3,500 kg of pseudoephedrine.

Following the NCB's raids in Delhi in February related to the case, Sadiq had been evading authorities. He had traveled extensively from Chennai to Thiruvananthapuram, Mumbai, Pune, Ahmedabad, and Jaipur before his apprehension.
