Rain and thunderstorms cause airline disruptions and cool Delhi-NCR

On Saturday, adverse weather conditions led to the diversion of twenty-two flights bound for Delhi. The sudden rainfall in parts of the national capital provided relief from the prevailing heat.

Among the diverted flights were nine from IndiGo, three from Vistara, eight from Air India, and one each from Air India Express and Saudia.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) attributed the rainfall to an active western disturbance over northwest India. Light rain, accompanied by gusty winds, is forecasted for Sunday.

Cloudy skies are expected in Delhi on Sunday, with intermittent light showers and winds reaching speeds of 35 to 40 mph, according to the IMD.

An advisory issued by the weather department warned of thunderstorms and lightning in the national capital region, urging people to remain indoors. Residents were advised to shut windows and doors and avoid unnecessary travel.

Furthermore, the advisory recommended seeking safe shelters and avoiding taking refuge under trees.
