Responding to two Bengali police officers following altercations on Ram Navami

Following the communal violence during Ram Navami celebrations in West Bengal's Murshidabad district, the Election Commission took action by removing the officers in charge of two police stations, Beldanga and Shaktipur, who were deemed responsible for failing to contain the clashes. The suspension of these officers came after clashes erupted during a Ram Navami procession in the Shaktipur area, where individuals were observed pelting stones at the procession from rooftops.

In response to the incident, the Election Commission stated that the officers' failure to prevent and control the communal violence led to their suspension. As a result, they were directed to be attached to the police headquarters during their suspension, and chargesheets were ordered to be issued promptly by the competent authority.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee accused the BJP of instigating violence during Ram Navami celebrations and criticized the party for prioritizing bloodshed and violence for its political agenda. Conversely, the BJP held Mamata Banerjee accountable for the clashes, attributing them to her divisive rhetoric and communal speeches, which they claim incited attacks on Ram Bhakts across Bengal.
