Kunwar Sarvesh Singh, a prominent BJP leader and the party's candidate for the Moradabad Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh, passed away on Saturday after battling a prolonged illness. He died at AIIMS in Delhi at the age of 71, around 6:30 pm.

Despite being the BJP nominee for the Moradabad seat, Singh did not actively participate in his election campaigns due to his health condition. His absence was felt particularly during the first phase of Lok Sabha elections when voting took place in Moradabad.

UP BJP chief Bhupendra Chaudhary confirmed Singh's demise, mentioning that he had undergone throat surgery and was undergoing treatment at AIIMS. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his condolences on social media, offering prayers for strength to Singh's supporters and family.

Kunwar Sarvesh Singh was known as a strong BJP leader in Uttar Pradesh, having been elected as an MLA four times from the Thakurdwara Assembly seat before serving as an MP. His son, Kunwar Sushant Singh, is also an MLA from the Badhapur assembly seat, which falls within the Moradabad Lok Sabha constituency.

Singh's political career was marked by various achievements and controversies, including his involvement in the loudspeaker controversy in the Kanth assembly constituency in 2014.

In the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections, Moradabad recorded a voter turnout of 60.60 percent, reflecting the significant political engagement in the region despite Singh's absence from the campaign trail.
