Telangana Minister chastised by poll authority for remarks on KTR about tapping heroines' phones

The Election Commission took action against Telangana Minister Konda Surekha on Friday after she accused BRS Working President KT Rama Rao (KTR) of blackmailing heroines through phone tapping and other methods. Acting on a formal complaint from BRS leader Sravan Dasoju, the Election Commission deemed Surekha's comments a violation of the Model Code of Conduct and directed her to exercise restraint.

In its statement, the Election Commission strongly censured Surekha for her misconduct and warned her to be cautious in her public statements during the Model Code of Conduct period. Surekha's remarks against Rama Rao were made during a press conference in Warangal on April 1.

The allegations stem from purported incidents of phone tapping involving Opposition leaders and the destruction of certain computer systems and official data during the previous BRS government. This controversy led to the arrest of several police officials by the Congress government, and the case is currently under investigation, causing significant turmoil in the state.
