The great-grandson of Bhagat Singh is against the photo being placed with Arvind Kejriwal

Yadavendra Singh, the great-grandson of freedom fighter Bhagat Singh, has expressed his objection to the use of Bhagat Singh's portrait in political contexts, particularly about the current situation involving Sunita Kejriwal, the wife of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

Singh emphasized that Bhagat Singh's contributions were for the country and society, and they should not be personalized or used for political gains. He stated that no leader should be compared to Bhagat Singh, and the politics conducted in his name should cease.

The controversy arose when Sunita Kejriwal, during her video address, sat with portraits of Bhagat Singh and Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar in the backdrop, alongside a photo of her husband Arvind Kejriwal behind bars. This arrangement sparked criticism, with some accusing the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of exploiting Bhagat Singh's image for political purposes.

While the BJP objected to the placement of Arvind Kejriwal's photo between the portraits of Bhagat Singh and Dr. Ambedkar, alleging an insult to their dignity, senior AAP leader Atishi defended the move. Atishi asserted that Kejriwal symbolizes the current struggle against what they perceive as BJP's dictatorship, and his presence serves as a reminder of this ongoing struggle.

The controversy underscores the sensitivity surrounding the use of historical figures' images in contemporary political discourse. It also reflects the ongoing political tensions between different parties, particularly in the context of Arvind Kejriwal's judicial custody in a money-laundering case.
