Fugitive scrap mafia leader Ravi Kana and his girlfriend Kajal Jha were apprehended by the Noida Police upon their return from Thailand, where they had fled to evade arrest in a gang rape case. Thai police arrested and deported them, leading to their arrest at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport.
They confessed to escaping to Thailand on December 31, 2023, to avoid arrest in the gang rape case. Noida Police had issued lookout and red corner notices against them and coordinated with Thai authorities for their arrest.
The duo is scheduled to be remanded to judicial custody by the police, with further interrogation expected. There are speculations that they may disclose involvement of high-profile individuals in their scrap business.
Earlier, Noida Police sealed Kana's properties worth approximately Rs 350 crore in Gautam Buddha Nagar, Bulandshahr, and Delhi, including an Rs 80 crore bungalow in New Friends Colony, Delhi, purchased in Jha's name.
Ravi Kana faced ten previous cases before being accused in the gang rape case filed on December 30, 2023. The complainant alleged that Kana and four others raped her six months earlier, recording the act to intimidate her. Kana fled to Thailand with Jha the next day, prompting a lookout notice and subsequent arrest upon their return. Investigations are ongoing.
