The poll panel notifies Andhra Chief Minister over comments made about Chandrababu Naidu

The Election Commission issued a notice to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy on Sunday, citing alleged derogatory comments he made against former Chief Minister and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Chief N Chandrababu Naidu. These remarks, deemed a violation of the Model Code of Conduct ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, were brought to the commission's attention by TDP leader Varla Ramaiah through a complaint.

In his complaint, Ramaiah referenced Reddy's public statements, including likening Naidu to an antagonist in the movie "Arundhati" and labeling him a "habitual offender". Reddy's remarks were allegedly made at a public event, where he characterized the elections as a battle between Naidu, whom he accused of habitual deceit, and the public.

The notice highlighted multiple instances where Reddy reportedly attacked the TDP chief in his speeches.

The Election Commission deemed these speeches as violations of the Model Code of Conduct and instructed Jagan Mohan Reddy to respond within 48 hours.

The Lok Sabha polls in Andhra Pradesh are scheduled for May 13.
