The Weather Department has issued a severe heatwave alert for four states in the coming days

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave warning for various regions across the country, particularly in East and South peninsular India, for the next five days.

According to the IMD's weather bulletin, areas in East and South peninsular India are expected to experience heatwave to severe heatwave conditions. The regions likely to be affected include Gangetic West Bengal, along with pockets of Bihar, Jharkhand, and Odisha. Similarly, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Konkan, and Goa are also expected to experience heatwave conditions.

The IMD has forecasted a rise in maximum temperatures by 2-3°C over East India in the next two days and over Maharashtra and many parts of southern peninsular India in the next five days.

While the western Himalayan region and the plains of Northwest India are expected to experience spells of rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds from April 26 to 29, Central India is likely to witness similar weather patterns on April 26 and 27.

Moreover, heavy rainfall is predicted in Northeast India from April 28 to April 30, which may lead to potential flooding and landslides.

The IMD has advised residents to remain prepared for any contingencies and to follow safety measures. Additionally, in the past 24 hours, the east and south peninsular regions experienced heatwaves, while hailstorms were reported in isolated regions of Maharashtra and East Madhya Pradesh.

According to the IMD bulletin, heatwave conditions have been prevailing over Odisha since April 15 and over Gangetic West Bengal since April 17.
