There's a chance of extreme heat in Karnataka and Odisha and rain in Bihar and Jharkhand

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings of heatwave conditions in several states, including Karnataka, Odisha, West Bengal, Telangana, and coastal Andhra Pradesh, in the coming days.

According to the IMD bulletin, heatwave conditions are expected to prevail over specific regions of these states during different periods from April 3 to April 7, 2024. Specifically:

- North Interior Karnataka: April 3rd to April 5th
- Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal: April 4th to April 7th
- Jharkhand, Telangana, and Rayalaseema: April 4th to April 6th
- Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam: April 3rd to April 6th

Additionally, hot and humid weather is expected over other regions during this period:

- Kerala, Mahe, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry: April 3rd to April 7th
- Coastal Karnataka: April 3rd to April 5th
- Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, and Rayalaseema: April 3rd, 2024

These warnings come following the IMD's earlier forecast of extreme heat conditions across India from April to June, particularly affecting central and western peninsular parts of the country.

On April 2nd, maximum temperatures were recorded between 40–43 degrees Celsius at isolated places in various regions, including south Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha, Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, interior parts of Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Odisha.

Temperatures were above normal by 1-4 degrees Celsius at many places over the Indo-Gangetic plains, south peninsular India, West Bengal & Sikkim, and at isolated places over northeast India.

The IMD predicts a gradual rise in maximum temperatures by 2-3 degrees Celsius over many parts of East India during the next 3 days, with no significant change thereafter.

Despite the heatwave conditions, the IMD also forecasts light to moderate rainfall along with thunderstorms over Northeast India till April 9, including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura.
