Three people—two of them children—die when a boat capsizes in Assam during a strong storm

The Brahmaputra River tragedy in Assam, resulting from heavy rainfall and a storm, claimed the lives of three individuals, including two children, after a boat capsized on Sunday night. The incident occurred in the South-Salmara Mankachar district, where the boat was ferrying passengers from Kali Alga Ghat to Nepur Alga Charanchal.

Approximately 20 people were rescued from the capsized boat, thanks to the swift response of local fishermen and authorities who rushed to the scene to assist the passengers, many of whom were women and children.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert, forecasting "heavy to very heavy" rainfall in Assam. A cyclonic circulation over the region, as reported by the IMD's Regional Meteorological Centre in Guwahati, contributed to the adverse weather conditions.

The latest IMD bulletin indicates that a cyclonic circulation persists over northeast Assam, leading to expected light to moderate rainfall across the state from April 1 to April 4. Isolated instances of heavy rainfall were predicted for the day, underscoring the need for continued vigilance and preparedness in the face of unpredictable weather patterns.
