The woman, identified as Suman Devi (34), attempted to end her life by climbing an electric pole and gripping a high-tension wire in Gorakhpur, allegedly following an argument with her husband over her extramarital affair.
Reports suggest that Devi was involved in a relationship with another man, and when her husband, Ram Govind (35), discovered the affair, she demanded that her lover be allowed to live in the same house as her husband.
However, when Govind refused her proposal and left the house, Devi resorted to attempting suicide by climbing the electric pole and holding onto the high-tension wire.
The incident, which occurred in the Pipraich area of Gorakhpur, was reported to the police by onlookers, who urged them to intervene to save the woman's life. Subsequently, the police contacted the local electricity department to cut off the power supply to prevent any further harm to Devi.
A video of the incident circulated on social media, showing Devi atop the electric pole while locals pleaded with her to descend safely.
The Station House Officer (SHO) of the Pipraich Police Station described the incident as a "matter of domestic dispute" and stated that the police team, upon receiving the information, persuaded Devi to come down from the pole with the assistance of the electricity department. Devi was eventually rescued and sent back home with her husband.
As of now, no formal complaints have been lodged regarding the incident.
