Two toll plaza workers in Madhya Pradesh's Datia district tragically lost their lives after they accidentally fell into a well while attempting to evade armed assailants who had opened fire on them. The incident, which occurred late on Tuesday evening, saw the toll plaza besieged by around 10 to 12 armed individuals riding six motorcycles. These assailants unleashed a hail of gunfire for approximately 15 minutes, discharging an estimated 20 to 30 rounds, according to reports from the news agency PTI.
In a state of panic, the toll plaza employees scattered in an attempt to seek refuge in nearby areas. Regrettably, amidst the chaos, two of them stumbled and fell into a nearby well situated in the adjacent agricultural fields. The bodies of the unfortunate victims were retrieved from the well on the following Wednesday morning.
Police authorities, in their investigation of the incident, revealed that efforts are underway to identify the perpetrators through surveillance footage from nearby CCTV cameras. They further disclosed that a case has been filed against the unidentified assailants, and a comprehensive inquiry into the matter is currently in progress, led by authorities at the Chirula police station.
