2 cars, 4 cities, and a new SIM card: the father of a teenage driver from Pune attempted to avoid the police

In a dramatic turn of events, Vishal Agarwal, the father of the 17-year-old involved in a fatal car crash in Pune, devised an elaborate plan to evade arrest following the tragic incident. Agarwal's son had crashed his Porsche into a bike, resulting in the deaths of two individuals, and the subsequent fallout led to Agarwal's arrest early Tuesday morning in Maharashtra's Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar area.

After the accident, an FIR was lodged against Vishal Agarwal. Anticipating the police pursuit, he orchestrated a complex escape strategy. Initially, he visited his properties in Pune, including a farmhouse in Daund, to potentially throw off any immediate search efforts. He then traveled to Kolhapur to meet a friend, further adding to his deceptive trail.

In Kolhapur, Agarwal took a significant step to misdirect the authorities: he sent his driver and car towards Mumbai while he continued his escape in his friend's car to Sambhajinagar. To further obscure his location, he misled his family about his intended destination, claiming he was headed to Mumbai. He also switched off his primary phone and began using a new number to avoid being tracked.

Despite his meticulous planning, Agarwal's movements were eventually traced through the GPS of his friend's car. Pune Crime Branch teams utilized technical surveillance, including GPS tracking and analysis of CCTV footage, to piece together his route. They also intercepted messages he sent to his family, which provided crucial leads. Ultimately, they located him hiding in a small lodge in Sambhajinagar.

The incident that set off this chain of events involved Agarwal's son, who had been partying with friends at two bars before the crash. The group first visited Cozy Bar from 9:30 PM to midnight, then moved to Black Bar from midnight to 1:00 AM. The tragic accident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, killing two IT professionals, Aneesh Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta when their motorbike was struck by the Porsche. Ashwini died on the spot, while Aneesh succumbed to his injuries shortly after being taken to the hospital.

The teenager was granted bail within 14 hours of his detention, which led to public outrage. The police have announced their intention to appeal to a higher court for permission to try the teenager as an adult, given the severity of the incident.

This case has highlighted not only the tragic loss of life but also the lengths to which individuals might go to evade justice, raising questions about accountability and the influence of socioeconomic status in the legal process.
