25, allegedly in custody after attacking police in Karnataka

In Karnataka's Davangere district, an angry mob attacked the Channagiri police station, pelting stones and alleging that a man named Adil, who had been called in for police questioning, had died inside the station. This incident led to the arrest of 25 individuals for vandalizing the police station and throwing stones at police officers. According to the police, all the arrested individuals are residents of Channagiri and nearby towns.

The unrest erupted when the mob accused the police of killing Adil, a 30-year-old man detained on May 24 for his alleged involvement in gambling activities in the district. Initial reports from the police suggested that Adil's death was due to low blood pressure, though the post-mortem reports are still awaited. The police also noted that there were no injury marks on Adil's body and that he had collapsed within five minutes of being inside the station.

Davangere Superintendent of Police Uma Prashanth confirmed the arrests, stating, "We have arrested 25 people in connection with yesterday's Channagiri case and have sent them to judicial custody." Prashanth also mentioned that the case would be handed over to the Crime Investigation Department (CID) for further investigation.

As news of Adil's death spread, his relatives, along with a large group of people, went on a rampage, damaging police vehicles and hurling stones at the police station, alleging custodial death. In response, the police resorted to a lathi charge to disperse the crowd. Several police personnel were injured in the attack, and more than five police vehicles were damaged due to the stone pelting by the mob.
