A Danish diplomat's film of "trashy, green Delhi" prompts a civic group to take action

Denmark's diplomat to India, Freddy Svane, took to X to share a troubling video showcasing a pile of garbage accumulated outside the walls of the embassy building in New Delhi. Expressing his dismay, Svane hoped for swift action to address the issue.

In the video, Svane stood on a roadside adjacent to the embassy, visibly surrounded by litter. He lamented the situation, describing New Delhi as "great, green, and trashy," highlighting the juxtaposition of the garbage-filled service lane with the embassies of Denmark and Greece.

Expressing his frustration, Svane emphasized the need for action rather than mere words, urging authorities to address the problem promptly. He concluded the video with a sweeping shot of the garbage-strewn area surrounding the embassy building.

Sharing the video on X, Svane tagged official accounts of the Royal Danish Embassy in India, the Delhi Chief Minister’s Office, and the Delhi Lieutenant Governor, alongside the caption, "Lovely and green New Delhi. Many words but no action. Saddened by this."

In response to Svane's plea, the New Delhi Municipal Committee swiftly dispatched officials to clean up the area, as evidenced by visuals showing the diplomat alongside NDMC personnel at the spot.
