A dispute involving sex videos has Karnataka MP Prajwal Revanna suspended from JD(S)

On Tuesday, the JD(S) made the decision to suspend its MP, Prajwal Revanna, amid allegations of sexual abuse, a move affirmed by party leader and former Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy. Kumaraswamy cited the party's stance against injustice towards women as the rationale behind the decision.

Kumaraswamy also hinted at a potential conspiracy against the JD(S), highlighting the timing of the release of explicit videos implicating Prajwal just days before polling in the Hassan constituency, where Prajwal was the NDA candidate.

Regarding the ongoing investigation, Kumaraswamy noted that while the victims had yet to lodge formal complaints, the State Women's Commission had written to the Chief Minister, prompting the establishment of a Special Investigation Team (SIT).

The suspension of Prajwal Revanna from the JD(S) remains in effect until the investigation reaches its conclusion, as affirmed by Kumaraswamy.

The sexual abuse allegations surfaced with the circulation of explicit video clips purportedly involving Prajwal Revanna, prompting the MP to reportedly leave the country for Germany.

In addition to the video controversy, a woman formerly employed in Prajwal's household accused both Prajwal and his father, JD(S) MLA and former minister HD Revanna, of sexual harassment, leading to the registration of a case against the duo.

Reacting to the allegations, HD Revanna emphasized his willingness to cooperate with any investigation and expressed readiness to face legal consequences if proven guilty.

The Congress has seized upon the issue to criticize the BJP and its coalition partner, the JD(S). Congress spokesperson Suprya Shrinate alleged prior communication from BJP leader Devaraj Gowda to the party leadership about pen drives and Prajwal Revanna's purported misconduct.

Protests erupted in Bengaluru and other parts of Karnataka following the controversy, with the National Commission for Women (NCW) seeking a report from Karnataka police within three days. The NCW condemned such incidents, emphasizing the need for swift action to apprehend the accused and address concerns regarding women's safety and respect.
