A doctor denies charging a Rajasthan woman who was critically injured after having the wrong kidney removed

The 30-year-old woman, identified as Eid Bano, had been suffering from kidney stones and decided to visit Dhankhar Hospital in Jhunjhunu to have them removed. However, her situation has become critical after an alleged medical mishap during surgery.

Eid Bano, from Nua village in Rajasthan's Jhunjhunu district, sought treatment for her kidney stones at Dhankhar Hospital, owned by Dr. Sanjay Dhankhar. After conducting some tests, Dr. Dhankhar informed Bano that her right kidney was allegedly damaged due to the stones and required urgent removal. Bano's family consented to the surgery, which was performed on May 15.

Tragically, it was alleged that Dr. Dhankhar removed Bano's healthy right kidney instead of the damaged left one. Two days post-surgery, Bano's condition worsened, prompting her return to Dhankhar Hospital. Dr. Dhankhar then referred her to a hospital in Jaipur for further treatment and instructed Bano's family to keep quiet about the surgery.

Upon admission to Sawai Man Singh Hospital in Jaipur, Bano's family discovered the surgical error. The doctors in Jaipur, unable to provide further treatment, sent her back home. As news of the medical negligence spread, Dr. Dhankhar visited Bano's family, offering financial assistance for her treatment elsewhere, which the family declined. Instead, they lodged a police complaint against him.

Bano's husband, Shabbir, confirmed that a case had been registered and called for strict action against Dr. Dhankhar. Meanwhile, Dr. Dhankhar denied any wrongdoing, maintaining that he removed the kidney because it was damaged.

In response to the incident, Chief Medical Health Officer Rajkumar Dangi formed a five-member team of doctors to investigate. Hospital records have been seized as part of the probe.

Additional information revealed that Dr. Dhankhar had previously worked as a surgeon at BDK Government Hospital in Jhunjhunu. He was placed under an awaiting posting order (APO) and suspended in 2017 following the death of a patient. In 2020, he was reassigned to a village in Churu district but failed to join the service.
