A drug racket worth over 32,000 tablets and 170 kg of cough syrup was busted in Maharashtra

The Narcotics Control Bureau's (NCB) Mumbai unit recently dismantled an interstate drug syndicate operating in Maharashtra, resulting in the confiscation of over 160 kg of cough syrup and more than 32,000 tablets of prohibited narcotic drugs. During the operation, at least one individual was apprehended by NCB operatives.

The operation was initiated based on intelligence inputs, leading to the initial seizure of 12,400 Alprazolam tablets and 169.7 kg of Codeine syrup from a storage facility in Panvel. Subsequent searches yielded an additional 9,600 Alprazolam tablets and 10,380 Nitrazepam tablets from a residence in Thane's Mumbra.

NCB officials suspect that these narcotic substances were unlawfully obtained from other states via inland parcels. The bureau received information implicating a syndicate based in Thane, purportedly engaged in the acquisition and distribution of diverted pharmaceutical drugs in Mumbai and its environs.

Following this lead, intelligence networks were activated to gather further intelligence on the syndicate. Additionally, a courier line involved in the transportation of narcotic drugs was identified and monitored.

On May 4, NCB operatives intercepted TM Shafi, who was assigned to collect the drug consignment. Subsequent searches led to the recovery of the illicit drugs in his possession. The NCB also seized all contraband and vehicles used by Shafi during the operation. Incriminating evidence recovered during questioning is currently being investigated.

The NCB continues to delve into the case to uncover additional details and potential accomplices.
