A contractual female employee of the governor's house in West Bengal, who accused Governor CV Ananda Bose of molestation, has announced her intention to seek intervention from President Droupadi Murmu in the matter. This decision follows the Governor's screening of multiple CCTV footage of Raj Bhavan in an attempt to refute the allegations leveled against him.
However, the woman has raised concerns about her privacy, stating that the Governor's decision to show unedited footage without blurring her face constitutes a new offense. Feeling disillusioned with the Kolkata Police's limited ability to act due to the Governor's constitutional immunity, the victim expressed her intent to reach out to the President for justice.
Acknowledging the Governor's protected status under Article 361 of the Constitution, which grants immunity from criminal proceedings, the Kolkata Police has announced an inquiry into the matter instead of a full-fledged investigation requiring the filing of an FIR.
The woman initially filed a complaint with the Kolkata Police, alleging molestation by Bose at the governor's house on April 24 and May 2. The Governor, meanwhile, screened CCTV footage from May 2, showing various activities at Raj Bhavan, but the victim was not identifiable in the footage.
