A hospital knife attack in China left two people dead and over twenty injured; a suspect was detained

The knife attack at a hospital in China's Yunnan province has left at least two people dead and more than 20 others injured, according to state media reports citing official sources. The assailant was reportedly apprehended at a nearby wellness center following the incident.

Described as a "violent, vicious assault" by China's official Xinhua news agency, the attack occurred at the Zhenxiong County People’s Hospital in Zhaotong city. Details are still emerging, and authorities are working to gather more information about the incident.

Videos from the scene show police apprehending a suspect at a wellness center, as reported by local Guizhou TV. However, officials have not yet provided any comment on the arrest of the suspect.

Witnesses reported that doctors were among the injured individuals, adding to the gravity of the situation. This incident is the latest in a series of knife attacks that have occurred in China in recent years, highlighting ongoing concerns about public safety.

In 2023, a knife attack outside a kindergarten in Guangdong province resulted in the deaths of six people. Similarly, in August 2022, three people were killed and six others injured in a knife attack at a kindergarten in southeast Jianxi province. Another tragic incident occurred in February of the same year when eight students were killed and two others injured in a brutal knife attack at a primary school in central Hubei province.
