An 18-year-old individual from Sahibganj district in Jharkhand tragically drowned after leaping into a quarry lake from a height of approximately 100 feet in an attempt to create an Instagram reel, as per police reports on Tuesday.
Identified as Tausif, the young man plunged into the lake on Monday evening, amidst friends who were bathing nearby. Despite their efforts to rescue him, they were unable to prevent the tragic outcome.
Upon realizing the gravity of the situation, they promptly sought help from locals and the authorities, prompting a search operation. Regrettably, Tausif's lifeless body was discovered later.
A video capturing the incident has circulated widely on social media, depicting the ill-fated moment when Tausif dived into the water, recorded by a friend. However, the joyous occasion swiftly turned into horror as he began to struggle in the water shortly after entering.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Vijay Kumar Kushwaha shed light on the sequence of events, explaining that Tausif lost control and succumbed to the deep waters after his initial plunge.
