Srinivasan Sivaraman, a 40-year-old Indian national from Tamil Nadu, tragically lost his life while working in Singapore. As a cleaning operations manager at Supersonic Maintenance Services, he was cleaning a tank at the Choa Chu Kang Waterworks when he succumbed to toxic fumes, leaving behind his wife, Narmatha, and their two daughters, Mahasri, 9, and Srinisha, 7.
The incident occurred on May 23, when Sivaraman and two Malaysian workers were found unconscious due to inhaling hydrogen sulfide gas, a by-product of the water treatment process. Despite efforts to save him, Sivaraman passed away at the hospital, while the Malaysian workers remained in intensive care.
Sivaraman's family, who had arrived in Singapore for a summer holiday, were left devastated by his sudden demise. They returned to their hometown in Thanjavur district, Tamil Nadu, immediately after receiving the news.
His daughters, unaware of their father's passing, were eagerly awaiting his return and questioning his absence. Sivaraman's brother-in-law, Mohan Naveenkumar, recounted the heartbreaking situation, expressing their struggle to explain the tragic reality to the children.
Sivaraman's body was repatriated to India, and his funeral was held in Thanjavur on May 28, marking the end of a life cut short by a workplace accident.
